After a long flight to Houston and a shorter flight to San Pedro Sula we boarded an air conditioned small bus and made our four hour trek to the town of Copan Ruinas. We had an interesting stop at the bano...(bathroom) and then a more interesting time when the realization dawned on the kids that there was no stopping on a very windy road for any more bathroom breaks! Enough said! We were all overwhelmed, fascinated, and sometimes even shocked at the scenes that unfolded before us on our drive to Copan. This is an amazingly lush and beautiful country! We arrived at our hotel to the delight of everyone and we all love the little place we will call home for the next two weeks. The rooms are spotless and there are hammocks on the rooftop with a little pool to wade in and cool off. We then joined the Urban Promise team at an amazing home cooked meal where everyone chatted and got acquainted with each other. The kids gobbled up the home fried chicken, plaintains and a dish none of us can pronounce but was delicious and something like a Honduran crepe! We walked home through cobbled streets to the sound of a church service ringing through the streets. We can now hear the sermon from our roof top ( but of course can't understand anything but the Spirit of it) and all the kids have gone to lay their heads down after an exhausting yet exciting day. We have a day of orientation tomorrow and everyone is eager to get started! We covet your prayers for energy, rest and a continued sense of unity.
love from all of us to all of you,
Gillian
